Which film franchise will achieve sequel supremacy in 2023?

Insidious 5 (July 7, 2023)

Wait, there are four other Insidious movies? The formerly possessed Dalton Lambert (Ty Simpkins) must be in college by now! Oh, he is and it’s set at the college? Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne return as his parents. Demonic possession and college tuition payments? This family cannot catch a break. I think the demon in the above photo is screaming “seventy-thousand dollars a year” into Patrick Wilson’s ear. Oh, and it’s Wilson’s very first time directing a film. I hope he understands the feel and mood of…oh right he was in all the other ones, I’m sure he’s got this.

Scream VI (March 10, 2023)

The Scream franchise has been going so long, Ghostface called Drew Barrymore on a landline in the OG film. The upcoming Scream film sees Ghostface leave small town America for the greatest city in the world to continue to torment the traumatized victims trying to start fresh in the Big Apple. That means at some point, Ghostface had to stand in line, in full costume, to buy a Metro Card and figure out the subway system. I would watch a movie about that. The film stars Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, and Hayden Panettiere and Courteney Cox returning from previous films trying to afford an apartment.

Saw X (October 27, 2023)

The tenth Saw film brings us more fancy Roman numerals and the return of actor Tobin Bell as Jigsaw himself. The film will take place sometime between the events in Saw II and Saw III.

The Exorcist (2023)

The 2023 film is not a remake but rather a sequel to the 1973 classic most often cited as the scariest horror film of all time. One of the most exciting aspects of the upcoming film is that the original’s led actress, Ellen Burstyn, is back in the same role as the 1973 film. The cast also includes Leslie Odom, Jr., Ann Dowd, and Linda Boston.

In the original film, Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn) comes to realize her sweet, twelve-year-old daughter Regan (Linda Blair) has been possessed by a demon. She enlists the help of two priests, played by Max Von Sydow and Jason Miller, to perform an exorcism on the girl. If you’ve haven’t seen the original, which is unlikely, I have two words for you going in: pea soup. Technically the 2023  release is the sixth of The Exorcist film, but it may be more of a direct sequel to the original. The plot is still under wraps.
